Accelerated Reader (AR) is an independent reading program used to encourage students to grow as readers. The program is tailored to each student allowing teachers to help all students to stretch and strengthen their reading muscles. Students will be asked to read within a Lexile range based on their STAR reading assessment. Grades 2-8 are assigned a point goal each quarter. Each book is lexiled and assigned a point value based on length and difficulty of the text. When a student successfully passes the quiz, they earn points for the book.
Note: Quizzes may only be taken when logged into the STG network on campus during school hours.
STAR is an assessment used to determine a student's independent reading level, reported in a Lexile measure. In order to track growth, plan for instruction and adjust each student's Accelerated Reader goal, we administer the STAR reading assessment to students in grades 2 - 8 three times each year. Teachers will communicate with students how and when to take this assessment.
Hello! My name is Mrs. Sullivan and I have the pleasure of being a librarian at St. Gregory Catholic School. Welcome to our library! I am here to assist you in person on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week. I have two goals I strive to excel at each year...to connect you to good books and to ignite within you a love of reading!
I graduated from the University of Dallas with a BA in Psychology and a Concentration in Business. I then continued on to get my post-baccalaureate degree in Elementary Education. I started my career teaching 2nd and then 5th grade. After staying home to raise my babies, I was excited to return to the education profession. Moving into the role of librarian was a perfect fit for me since I am an avid reader and reading was always one of my favorite subjects to teach. This is my 19th year as the St. Gregory librarian.
I look forward to working with you to unlock your love of reading!
Hello! My name is Mrs. Benedict and I am one of our school librarians. This is my third year working in the library and I really enjoy working with all of our students to become better readers.
I graduated from Bowling Green State University in Ohio with a BA in Secondary Education. After completing my student teaching at a Catholic high school in Toledo, Ohio, I made the move to Phoenix and worked for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Phoenix. I found St. Gregory’s in 2007 and haven’t left! I met my husband Patrick here and our three children have attended St. Gregory’s. I love our community!
I love reading and my hope is to help our students find a love for reading as well!
